The purpose of the Screen Weavers writing group is two fold; First: to learn from each member, as much about the craft of writing for the screen as possible using our own talents, and second: to lift up each member through heartfelt encouragement when we run into the "block."
In order to invite, then maintain the level of both competency and dedication of the members, the following membership activities are "encouraged" but are not set in stone:
Each member is encouraged to complete a full lengh feature script within one year of joining the group.
Each member is encouraged to present to the group at large, a mini-seminar chosen from the list of topics available or any other topic that will benefit both the presenter and the meeting's audience. This mini-seminar should take place within one year of joining the group. We have found that the presenter and the audience benefit from this form of teaching.
Each member is encouraged to purchase one instructional book about the craft of screen writing for his/her own use, but should make the same title available for other group members to borrow. This will, in fact, create a lending library within the group, thus saving each member the cost of maintaining their own (and often duplicated) library.
At this point, there are no other requirements, either in time or finances. As the group grows and changes become necessary, those suggested changes will be brought to the group for discussion and if necessary, integrated into the membership encouragements.
